Excellent, really interesting and very different from the usual Orlando attractions. Definitely worth a visit.
For the last 3 years I have attended Pioneer Day at Pioneer village. This is a free event in which kids can learn all about Florida history through hands-on activities. My son learned how to wash clothes with a washboard, churn milk into butter, and made a rope. Last year he helped juice a sugarcane plant.
Neat to see a bit of history so close to the city!
I have never been to the village on a "normal" day. However I understand that they have employees talk about each of the houses for a nominal fee. The place is well kept and the knowledge of the staff is incredible. I would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to know a little bit more about Florida history.
My kid is 5 so he is more attentive then last year. We listened to a real Indian show us how they made and utilized tools to survive in the Florida wilderness. Last year we had to leave that talk early. This is an incredible event for kids under 10.
Very entertaining and engaging and yet a beautiful natural and peaceful environment. Children will love the authentic pioneer houses if they can go through. Lots of open space for them to run and play. Wonderful Renditions of the past by dedicated volunteers. Super clean. You will have to do a little looking digging to find them but you would not believe how beautiful this area is in the middle of the tourist height.
